DAY 13

Habit Building Tip

Greetings, meditator friends!

Welcome to Day 13!  The last time we explored habit building, I introduced the idea of a trigger to prompt an action.  I explained that creating a new habit (like meditation) can be supported by connecting the new habit to an existing daily behavior.

Another kind of trigger is a visual prompt or reminder.  If, for example, I want to remember to take a few deep breaths throughout the day, I could write "Breathe" on a sticky note and place it in a conspicuous place in my workspace or even on the door frame of my office.

As far as meditation, you could set some visual trigger in an appropriate place depending on when and where you practice.  It could be a practical item like the sticky note mentioned above, or even a calendar, if you're tracking your practice in some way.

The visual trigger could also be a more symbolic item, like a small statue or other item that is connected to whatever motivates you to practice.

Have you already been using triggers like this?  If so, I would be curious to hear what works best for you!
